Namaste (Hello !!)
I am Abhijeet Mahabaleshwarkar, an IT professional born and brought up in Pune city (the cultural capital of Maharashtra and also known as Oxford of the East). I just love to travel and get close to nature (especially in the mountains and Himalaya’s). I am immensely passionate about getting outdoors and exploring new places. Most often, I travel with my family/relatives or with my friends. Nature gives me a lot of positivity, energy & peace of mind. I also love photography and it goes hand in hand with my enthusiasm for voyages. I am very fond of reading travel blogs/articles, browse and collect the information about anything related to tourism, plan my trips and help others also in itinerary planning.
I first traveled with my family outside of Maharashtra in 1993. I traveled to Manali & Dalhousie. At that time, very few people knew about Dalhousie (it came into limelight after the release of “1942: A Love Story”) and we thoroughly enjoyed the natural beauty and peaceful trails of Dalhousie.
After this trip, there was no looking back. Although my first trip was planned through a travel agent, I seldom traveled with them in last 23 years. In those days (sans internet, blogs), planning a trip on your own was very difficult. I used to buy & study maps, write letters to tourism boards/hotels and ask for travel brochures, send the demand drafts and a covering letter for hotel bookings. Air travel was a dream and we used to stand in queue for hours to book the railway tickets. In last 10 years or so, it has become very easy to research, plan, book and embark on the journey.
My personal favorites are Hill stations of India &small but beautiful hamlets/offbeat places in Himalayas. I relish trekking on the forts of Sahyadri mountains and to the beautiful destinations in the lap of Himalayas. I have done couple of Himalayan treks with Youth Hostel Association of India and few others with friends.
Next on my favorites list are trips to Pristine sea beaches & lakes across India, Wildlife Parks, happening Goa & equally peaceful Konkan (coastal area of Maharashtra).
India –Maharashtra (Beaches of Konkan, Trekking on Forts, Kolhapur, Mumbai, Aurangabad), Himachal Pradesh (Shimla, Kullu-Manali, Dharamshala, Dalhousie, Chamba), Uttaranchal (Haridwar, Rishikesh, Mussoorie, Auli, Jim Corbett National Park, Nainital, Ranikhet, Almora, Binsar, Jageshwar, Chaukori, Chopta, Har-Ki-Doon Trek), Jammu & Kashmir (Leh-Ladakh, Jammu, Vaishno Devi, Srinagar, Pahalgam, Gulmarg, Sonmarg, Verinag), Punjab (Amritsar), Delhi, Goa, Kerala (Munnar, Kumarakom, Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, Trivandrum), Tamilnadu (Ooty, Kodaikanal, Kanyakumari, Madurai), Karnataka (Bangalore, Mysore), West Bengal (Kolkata, Darjeeling, Mirik Lake), Sikkim (Gangtok, Tsomgo Lake)
Celebrating 23 years of travel, so many voyages to wonderful places in Incredible India, a good collection of travel memories and a flair for writing. I thought, why not share my experiences with people who love travelling and also with people who have not traveled much but hopefully will start planning after reading my posts J. My writing style is very simple and tries to connect with a common man. I will also try my best to help you with suggestions, travel tips and any other travel information needed.
